The song we chose to lip sync to was Hall and Oats - "You make my dreams come true".
However, after watching this clip from 500 days of summer we liked the video so much we decided to base our video on the clip.
Storyboard
We created a storyboard which will help us recreate the video above shot for shot.
Shot list
Location
Using google maps we planned a route which we could take so that when we went out and filmed, we would know exactly where to film. However, the shots are all different lengths so we cannot accurately say which shot will be filmed where until we get out and film.

What went well
Lighting
The lighting in the scene was perfect, it reflected the song and made the protagonist visible.
Camera angles
We used a wide variety of camera angles which made the sequence more varied and interesting.
Setting
The setting we filmed in was busy enough to make the sequence look realistic but not too busy that it prevented us from filming certain shots.
Lip syncing
Some of the lip syncing matches perfectly with the song.
Issues
Matching the original video
In the video the protagonist is handed a baseball bat which he swings. However, because we couldn't get a baseball bat we used a golf club instead. A similar problem occur with the water feature, Thornbury unfortunately doesn't have a water fountain but to create a similar feel we filmed water being squished out of their bottles. We did this on purpose to add a comical feel to the video. These issues did affect the accuracy to which we replicated the original video but it did make our video more unique.
Lip syncing
The person we used to lip sync the song had never heard the song before. This meant that filming took longer than we expected because they hd to learn the lyrics between each cut. As well as this they were unfamiliar with the pace of the song which made the lip syncing look unnatural.
Pace
The lyrics didn't match the protagonists lip syncing at some points. This was due to us only being able to play the song at a low volume because we could only play the song on a mobile phone with a limited volume.
Match on action
There are a lot of jumps between each cuts where the protagonists moves forward or back from their original position. This is due to poor planning and because we were focused on getting the lip syncing accurate rather than also paying attention to the protagonists positioning within each scene.
Framing
In certain scenes the protagonists face was cut out of the frame when she waked across the scene.
Camera movement
Some of the camera movement is unsteady. Tis was due to the tripod being stiff which made it difficult for us to establish a panning shot. The camera movement is unsteady when the protagonist is crossing the road beach the tripod also didn't have wheels which meant that it had to be hand held.
Learning comment
From this i have learnt the importance of match on action. The cuts were not matched in our video which i think let the whole video down. I have also learnt that in order for the protagonist to look as though they are singing the song, their lip syncing must be exaggerates. Although our protagonists did this well in most cases, in some footage the words look mumbled. It is also vital that the protagonist does know the song as a lot of our time was taken up by teaching them the songs lyrics. It also meant they didn't know the songs tune or tempo resulting in their lip syncing being out of time and some scenes appearing awkwardly mumbled. If I were to re do this task i would pick a song our character knows and would make sure to over lap each cut so that the match on action could be smoother.
