After organizing to film today after school, unfortunately Sam cancelled. From now on we have decided to let Sam organise the times for the shoot and contact us when he is ready to film. This way we feel he is less likely to cancel. If he does not contact us with times he is free, we may have to begin to film at lunch times due to us running out of time. This will be more difficult for us because students may be using the photography studio at lunch making it difficult to film for the whole hour. In the meantime we will continue to plan our digipaks and finish the photographs for that aspect of our project.

Digipak editing practice - layering images and cutting out backgrounds.
Original photos:
For the photo shoot aspect of my design I had Ellie hold up two pieces of paper so that when it came to editing I would easily be able to select the area I needed to delete. By making Ellie hold the paper it would look more realistic that she was holding images of herself up.
The first step was to import the images into photoshop. I then selected the area (The paper) and deleted it. In order for the section to look more crisp I made the selected area more square like.
Next, I selected a portion of the very same image, cut it out and enlarged it. This was so that my image could be more interesting and therefore eye catching.
Finally I resized the imported images appropriately so that the artist was still identifiable. I felt this was important for the sake of brand identity and iconography.
Organizing the re shoot for performance
After filming our first set of footage in the photography studio, we edited the footage. However, a lot of the footage we filmed was too still despite Sam's enthusiasm because we filmed all the clips on tripod. Therefore, we have decided to re shoot another day. Based on all our timetables and parents evening being this Thursday (23/11/17) we have decided to film on Friday after school. This is because we feel that the photography studio will be quieter so we can film without interruptions and because it is darker outside we will not have to worry about light filtering through the blinds. To ensure the off tripod footage we film will be up to a high standard we have decided to place the camera on the tripod but hold the tripod whilst moving. This will enable us to capture a moving shot which will still be stable. For inspiration on how to accomplish this effectively (what angles to use, how quick the movement needs to be etc.) We looked at this clip which taught us how to use our tripod to film stable shots without having to buy any additional equipment:

Location visit - Barrow Gurney
When on the location visit I found that it was almost impossible to film the actual hospital. This was because the land had been bought by a building company which had built a housing estate on the land. The main area of the hospital had been knocked down and what was left of the hospital was shut off with CCTV cameras. However, I found that if we went through the woods we were able to access the remaining part of the building. I did manage to sneak around the back of the fence but it would still be too risky to film an entire scene of our music video there. This is because surrounding the building, were CCTV cameras which also meant that we wouldn't have been able to enter the building and would have to film outside. In addition to this, to get to the building I had to walk through the forest which took a while. It would be unsafe to take the camera through the woods as they were overgrown and the overall journey time just to get to the location would have been a huge chunk out of the little time we have to film. Me and Charlotte have re-thinked the location and have decided on a different location which is much more accessible.

Initial pitch - 18
Learning comment
From this task we were able to establish the concepts for each area of our video. For example, for the lighting we were able to recognise that the natural lighting on the concept based half of the video will not need to be tampered with unless necessary. One of the things that we did spend a lot of time planning was the type of video we were going to film. After looking at the lyrics though, we decided it would be best if our video were concept based as the lyrics didn't appear to be meaningful enough to create an interesting and relevant narrative. This task has taught me the importance of planning and will now allow me and Charlotte to begin looking at each area of the video in more depth. The area I am most excited to research more into is the animal masks we are using as I believe that they will provide the audience with an insight to our characters personalities as the mask they wear will be symbolic of their attributes; e.g: lion: brave, courageous. It will also allow us to give our audience a brief overview of our idea and allow them to give us constructive feedback which will help our video improve. Layover font
Although this font is serif and is appropriate for the indie rock genre, I don't think it is bold enough for the audience to still see the footage behind the text.
This text is an improvement from the previous but is less exciting. We will continue to look for fonts as inspiration.
Although this text is too thin and is not appropriate for the style of music, I do like the lines used between the text. I will apply this to the previous font to create the ideal layover font for our video and genre.
